"Is Valencian and Catalán the same language?

The Spanish court now says that the Valencian language is essentially Catalán.

Does that mean that Valencia is part of the Catalán community?

Many friends who speak Valencian tell me there is really no difference.

There are some different words and the pronunciation is a little different, but in theory, these two dialects are practically the same,

When I hear people speaking the dialect of Valencian / Catalán, it does seem very similiar.

I have also heard that the Valencian dialect is spoken in the west of Catalonia.

On the other hand, some people say that the Valencia language is very different to the Catalán.

I think it is the same problem when speaking about American or British English.

Essentially it is the same language, although there are many different words and accents, as there is in Valencia and Catalonia.

Then, am I right to say that Valenciano is one of the dialects of Catalán, such as the dialect spoken in Mallorca ?

Some people have also told me that in the middle ages, Cataluña was part of

The Kingdom of Valencia created in 1238 when the Moorish taifa of Valencia was taken in the course of the Reconquest.

Also, at that time, The Crown of Aragon controlled a large portion of the present-day eastern Spain and southwestern France, as well as some of the major islands and mainland possessions stretching across the Mediterranean as far as Greece.

Essentially, I´m curious to know if Cataluña was and is in fact part of The Kingdom of Valencia.
